Arctic Monkeys
One of the more inspiring rock shows I've ever seen was actually at the Fillmore downtown. The band's stage presence with Turner's word-packed vocals that seem to fly effortlessly over it all works to great effect. The manic riffs and rhythms with a confident detachment remind one of Echo & the Bunnymen - leaning more towards occasional few phrases mumbled into the mic between songs (with heavy Britt brogue). I have to say that this band's playing is simply beyond incredible. They just play - and do they play! There's not a lot of over trying to work the crowd as some bands do.
My only criticism is that the sound was way blown-out (in the balcony at least). This was particularly so with the opener - The Vaccines. All distortion and mud with little definition. This band from London had great songs that managed to come through - despite the horrible sound.
